Biography
  • SangJoon Shin received his BS and MS in Aerospace Engineering from Seoul National University in 1989 and 1991, respectively. Then he received SM and PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT in 1999 and 2001, respectively. Between 1991 and 1996 he was a Research Engineer of Rotorcraft Systems at Agency for Defense Development in Daejon, Korea. Between 2001 and 2003 he was a Research Fellow of Aerospace Engineering in University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA. Since 2003, he has been at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National University. In 2009, he was a visiting professor at Georgia Institute of Technology, GA, USA.
     

  • His current research interests include aeroelasticity of fixed/rotary wings, fluid-structure interactions in aircrafts/rotorcrafts/launch vehicles, and smart materials/structures. 
     

  • He received the Best Paper Award from Dynamics Technical Committee of the American Helicopter Society in 2001. In 2013, he received the Special Award for Advisement in conjunction with Grand Prize in Aeronautical Sector under Aerospace Best Paper Competition bestowed by Korea Aerospace Industries, Ltd. He also received Song Ha Won Achievement Prize in 2016, from Computational Structural Engineering Institute of Korea for his achievement in computational engineering. 
     

  • He is an active member of the Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences (KSAS). Currently, he is a member of AIAA Structural Dynamics Technical Committee.
